Moldova has abolished the visa-free regime established in 1992 under the Bishkek agreement with the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
However, the possibility for citizens of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to travel to Moldova without a visa remains unchanged. Citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are now required to obtain a visa to travel to Moldova.
The Moldovan parliament explained this decision by the need to reconsider participation in CIS institutions and to align national legislation with the requirements of the European Union. At the same time, there are bilateral agreements between Moldova and many CIS countries, including Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, under which the visa-free regime remains in effect.
