In the Indian state of Bihar, Prime Minister Nitish Kumar became the focus of serious criticism after interfering with a Muslim woman's hijab during an official event. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to local sources, at a ceremony where appointment documents were being handed over to medical staff, when doctor Nusrat Parvin stepped onto the stage, Kumar pointed at her hijab and asked, "What is this?" and tried to pull her hijab down. This incident attracted the attention of the event participants and the public.
Video footage showed the woman’s surprise and the deputy next to the minister attempting to stop him. The incident was strongly condemned by human rights organizations.
Amnesty International head Akar Patel described this action as "an attack on a woman's dignity and personal freedom." He emphasized that no one has the right to interfere with a woman's beliefs or style of dress.
The Indian opposition also sharply criticized the minister. Representatives of the Rashtriya Janata Dal party expressed doubts about Nitish Kumar’s mental state, while the Congress party called for his resignation and described the incident as "disgusting and unforgivable."
It has been reported that following the incident, Nusrat Parvin is considering resigning from public service. This event has once again brought issues of religious and belief freedom in India to the forefront.
