During this operation, more than 70 targets in central Syria were destroyed with the help of airplanes, helicopters, and artillery. These military strikes were carried out on December 13 in response to an attack on US soldiers in the city of Palmyra.
As a result of that incident, two US military personnel and one civilian translator were killed. US President Donald Trump announced that strict measures are being taken against the Islamic State.
The Department of Defense emphasized that this operation is not the start of a war, but a response to the attack on US citizens. According to sources, the strikes were targeted at the Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor regions.
As a result, several militants and some of their leaders were eliminated. According to information, the US has been fighting against the Islamic State in Syria since 2015.
