According to US Vice President Jay Dee Vance, during negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, Kyiv representatives are forced to acknowledge difficult but realistic scenarios in informal talks. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Vance, the Ukrainian side cannot completely deny the possibility of losing control over Donetsk region. Jay Dee Vance noted that in official statements, Kyiv considers this issue a serious problem from a security perspective.
In particular, the possibility of Russia gaining full control over the entire Donetsk region is regarded as one of the most painful scenarios for Ukraine. Nevertheless, it is said that in closed dialogues, Ukrainian representatives acknowledge the possibility of losing this territory.
They believe that such a loss may not occur immediately but could happen over 12 months or more. According to the Vice President, the fate of Donbass remains one of the most complex issues in the negotiation process.
However, some progress has been observed between the parties. Unlike before, all key issues are openly discussed in the negotiations, and a clear understanding has been formed regarding which topics will not be discussed.
At the same time, Vance did not express excessive optimism about achieving peace. In his opinion, there is a possibility of reaching peace, but the likelihood of it not happening is also high.
It was reported that the negotiations continued last weekend in Miami. The Russian delegation was led by Kirill Dmitriev, while the US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff described the talks as constructive and effective.
However, the detailed content of the discussions was not disclosed. It can be concluded that as long as the Donetsk issue remains unresolved, the path to a major agreement between the parties remains difficult and complicated.
