Medvedev: The capture of Maduro is a violation of international law
Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev expressed his views on the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by US special forces. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

He described this situation as "recklessness" in international relations and a "gross violation of international law." According to Medvedev, this event was carried out with the aim of putting pressure on Venezuela.

Medvedev outlined two main scenarios regarding Maduro's fate. According to the first scenario, the US might release Maduro under some pretext, although this possibility is very low.

In the second scenario, he could become part of the Latin American freedom fighters and turn into a historical figure like Nelson Mandela. If he remains imprisoned for a long time, it is likely that political activists in the region and public support will strengthen.

Medvedev pointed to the country's desire to possess rich oil reserves as one of the main reasons for the events in Venezuela. However, he considers it unlikely that the US will launch a full-scale military operation in Venezuela.

This is because Congress is trying to limit Trump's military plans in this regard. Additionally, Medvedev commented on the seizure of the "Marinera" tanker under the Russian flag by the US, calling this incident a violation of international maritime law.

Russian politicians are demanding decisive measures in response to this situation. It is worth recalling that on January 3, US special forces conducted an operation in Caracas and captured Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores.

They have been charged with narcoterrorism, illegal trade, and smuggling. Maduro's trial is ongoing, with the next hearing scheduled for March 17.

Negotiations about the Vatican's intention to grant Maduro asylum in Russia were rejected by the US. Do you think this event could increase the likelihood of further complicating the political situation in Latin America?
