US troops withdrew from Ain al-Asad base

According to the Iraqi Ministry of Defense, US troops have completely withdrawn from the Ain al-Asad airbase in the western part of the country. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Now, this base has been fully transferred under the control of the Iraqi army. This airbase had been used for many years by US and coalition forces.
In 2024, an agreement was signed between Washington and Baghdad to withdraw US-led coalition forces from Iraq and establish bilateral security cooperation. This base was attacked by armed groups supporting Iran during regional conflicts, especially after the killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in 2020.
According to a representative of the Iraqi army, US troops have left the base, but some military personnel remain due to certain logistical issues. Details of this process have not been disclosed for security reasons.
According to initial plans, some US troops were scheduled to withdraw by September 2025, with the remainder leaving by the end of 2026. So far, no official information has been released regarding when the withdrawal began.
