First female president in Bulgaria
A new historic change has occurred in Bulgarian politics: for the first time, the leadership of the country has been entrusted to a woman. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

Vice-President Iliyana Yotova has officially begun performing the duties of the presidency. This change took place following the resignation of Rumen Radev.

It is known that Radev announced his departure from the presidency on January 19–20. He linked this decision to political problems in the country and the upcoming early parliamentary elections.

Radev also stated his intention to actively participate in the political process. According to the constitution, after the president's powers are terminated, the vice-president temporarily assumes these duties.

Thus, this mechanism was activated. 61-year-old Iliyana Yotova must now hold consultations with parliamentary parties and set a date for the new elections.

In recent years, elections have been repeated many times in Bulgaria due to difficulties in forming a stable government. According to European media, this will be the seventh election held since 2021.

Iliyana Yotova is considered an experienced figure in politics. She served as a Member of the European Parliament from 2007 to 2017.

During this period, she actively worked on important areas such as combating terrorism, migration issues, and Bulgaria's accession to the Schengen Area. During her vice-presidency, she paid special attention to Bulgarians abroad, the national language, and cultural relations.

Yotova's main task is to reach an agreement among parties and ensure a peaceful period before the elections. The political process has entered an intense phase, and this time the leadership role is being fulfilled by a woman.
