Increase in student suicides among schoolchildren in Japan

According to data from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan, suicide cases among elementary and middle school students reached a record high in 2025. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In that year, 532 school students ended their own lives. This figure is the highest recorded in official statistics maintained since 1980.
Analyses show that girls committed suicide more frequently than boys. The majority of cases were observed among middle school students, accounting for 349 incidents.
At the same time, there is a trend of decreasing suicide cases among the general population across the country. In 2025, fewer than 20,000 people in Japan ended their lives in this manner.
This indicates a positive change in the overall statistics.
