Record number of brewery closures in the UK

In 2025, nearly 140 breweries in the UK ceased operations. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This figure represents the highest closure rate in the last 50 years and is recorded as the largest decline observed since 1974. This was reported by The Daily Telegraph.
According to the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA), despite high demand for breweries over the past year, many producers were forced to stop their activities. SIBA's head, Andy Sline, emphasized that breweries operating in almost all regions of the country are leaving the market due to economic pressure.
Experts point to several reasons for this situation. The main one is the increase in taxes imposed by the government.
The rise in excise duties and value-added tax applied to alcoholic beverages is seriously affecting the financial stability of producers. As a result, many breweries are unable to continue their operations.
