Germany is filling gas storage facilities in preparation for the coming winter

The German government has begun urgently filling gas storage facilities to prepare for the upcoming winter season and strengthen the country's energy security. Zamin.uz reported on this matter.
This situation, which is also significant for Uzbek students, arose due to the increasing complexity of the geopolitical landscape on the international arena and a sharp rise in fuel prices on the global market. Currently, the price of one thousand cubic meters of natural gas in Europe has exceeded $700.
It is precisely this instability that is prompting Germany and other European countries to replenish their reserves. According to international information sources, gas storage levels in Germany had fallen to the lowest point in the last four years.
To address this situation, large state-controlled companies, specifically SEFE and Uniper, are storing more than 45 million cubic meters of gas per day in storage facilities. Notably, a portion of these reserves corresponds to the share of gas delivered from Russia.
SEFE continues to receive liquefied natural gas imported from Russia based on a long-term contract concluded with the "Yamal SPG" project. This process helps ensure fuel supply even at a time when relations between Germany and Russia are complicated.
Although the German government nationalized part of the gas infrastructure owned by Russia in April 2022, imports of gas from Russia did not cease. This gas is now being delivered to Europe through special terminals in France and the Netherlands.
Experts believe that long-term contracts are creating an opportunity for Germany to obtain relatively cheaper fuel amidst sharply rising prices. Currently, European Union countries are taking full advantage of favorable weather conditions and striving to fill their storage facilities to the maximum before the start of the winter season.
These measures will help provide sufficient heat to the population and enterprises during the upcoming cold days.
