While the world's attention is focused on the escalating relations between Tehran and Washington, decisions made by the US Department of Defense, i.e., the Pentagon, are further complicating the situation. Prestigious foreign publications, including The New York Times and Reuters agency, have announced a secret order from the Pentagon.
According to reports, President Donald Trump is sending an additional two thousand to four thousand troops to the region with the aim of creating broader military capabilities in a potential conflict with Iran. The interesting aspect of this process is that large-scale military mobilization is taking place contrary to the president's words about peace.
Trump emphasizes that he is currently discussing possibilities for an agreement with Tehran. Washington has presented Iran with a special package of 15 demands and is striving to stop the war.
However, despite diplomatic talk, more than fifty thousand fighters have already been mobilized for a military operation named Epic Wrath. This time, it is not ordinary units but the elite of the American army that has been brought into action.
Units consisting of the 82nd Airborne Division and the 10th Mountain Infantry are ready for combat missions. According to military analysts, the main objective of US troops could be an attack on Kharg Island, which ensures the viability of Iran's economy.
This island accounts for nearly ninety percent of Iran's oil exports. Capturing it would mean financially crippling Tehran.
However, this strategy also has dangerous aspects. The island is located eight hundred kilometers from the Strait of Hormuz, and troops stationed there could become easy targets for Iranian missiles.
The American people are sharply criticizing these decisions by the administration. According to poll results, seventy percent of the population indicates they are against additional military strikes.
Americans are concerned that their patriotic soldiers might fall into partisan traps in mountainous areas and suffer unnecessary casualties. Opinions demanding that soldiers not be sent to their death are increasing on social networks.
