Although officials stated there were no serious injuries in the accident, the incident led to the opening of a criminal case. Officials emphasized that Woods refused to undergo a medical examination after the crash.
The county sheriff informed journalists that personnel at the scene noticed signs of intoxication in Woods. Once his guilt was established, law enforcement officers arrested him and placed him in the Martin County jail.
The sheriff added that suspicions of alcohol consumption were confirmed both at the police station and subsequently at the detention facility. Woods was held for approximately eight hours before being released on bail.
This case garnered significant attention due to his fame in world golf. Throughout his career, he has been recognized as one of the greatest players in sports history, securing 15 major titles and becoming a global sports icon.
