Kazakhstan's birth rate will decline by 26.4% from 2021

The birth rate in Kazakhstan continues to decline. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In the first quarter of 2026, 74,100 children were born in the country. This is the lowest figure in the last 20 years.
Compared to the same period last year, the number of births decreased by 4.2 percent. In 2021, 100,500 children were born in the country.
Therefore, the decline in recent years has become quite noticeable. This trend has affected not only cities but also rural areas.
In cities, the birth rate dropped by 2.3 percent, while in rural areas it fell by 7.2 percent. Among regions, the highest indicator was recorded in Turkestan Region.
In the northern regions, the birth rate is the lowest. Experts believe this situation is linked to general changes related to population development, family planning, economic conditions, and shortcomings in the social support system.
Families’ decisions to have children are influenced by income, housing conditions, employment, availability of kindergartens, and the quality of medical services. Analysts are urging the Kazakh government to further strengthen measures to support families.
In particular, preferential loans for young families, payments for families with children, protection of maternal and child health, and reducing regional disparities are of great importance. Otherwise, such a decline in birth rates could seriously affect the population structure and labor market in the future.
