Mexico president criticises FIFA ticket prices

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum criticized FIFA over the sharp rise in ticket prices for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Zamin.uz reported.
She warned that such high prices could alienate ordinary fans, noting that some tickets in the official sale have reached as high as $32,970.
On the resale market, the situation is even more extreme, with certain tickets being valued at up to $2.3 million.
These figures could turn football into a serious luxury for many fans who simply love to watch the game. As Sheinbaum emphasized, football is not meant only for wealthy individuals or those with high purchasing power.
She stressed that the World Cup should remain a tournament that unites representatives from different nations and preserves the spirit of international friendship and competition. "Football should be different.
This is a matter worthy of serious consideration by FIFA," the Mexican president said. Sheinbaum underscored the need for ticket prices to be balanced and for genuine fans to have the opportunity to attend matches in stadiums.
