New city of Maya civilization discovered in Mexico

A new city belonging to the Maya civilization has been discovered by archaeologists in the dense forests of Mexico. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The discovered city had remained hidden from human sight for over a thousand years. Slovenian and Mexican scientists conducted a joint expedition in the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve.
The newly identified monument has been named Minanbe, which means "no road" in the Maya language. This term is explained by the fact that reaching the city was extremely difficult.
The expedition was led by Ivan Shprajs, an archaeologist from the Research Center of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Before the field work, specialists studied images of the area obtained through laser scanning technology.
In this way, the existence of ancient artificial structures under the dense forest was identified. As a result, an ancient city occupying approximately 13 hectares was found.
According to preliminary data, Minanbe was built between 600 and 900 AD. Many architectural structures have been preserved in the area, including a pyramid 13 meters high, water-related symbols, and stone inscriptions related to religious ceremonies.
According to the archaeologists, the monument has survived in an almost undamaged state. Unlike many other Maya cities, no traces of looting or illegal excavations were found here.
This situation further increases the scientific and historical value of Minanbe. Scientists believe that this city was one of the major economic and regional centers of its time.
The new discovery will be of great importance in uncovering the still unexplored secrets of the Maya civilization.
