In the Gaza Strip, Palestinian journalist Salim al-Ashqar has died

Prominent Palestinian goalkeeper Salim al-Ashqar has passed away as a result of the latest military operations carried out by the Israeli armed forces in the Gaza Strip. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to official information provided by the Palestinian Football Association, the 32-year-old athlete was shot dead in the town of Al-Qarara in the Gaza Strip. Salim al-Ashqar joined the list of more than a thousand Palestinian athletes who have perished since military actions began in the region in October 2023.
The late footballer had achieved many accomplishments during his personal life and career. He had started a family just five months ago and was eagerly awaiting the birth of his first child with his spouse.
During his career, the athlete defended the honor of the Khan Yunis Services club and also played as a goalkeeper for teams such as Al-Aqsa and Al-Musaddar in the Gaza Strip. His tragic death was a heavy loss not only for his loved ones but for the entire sporting community.
Chile's Deportivo Palestino football club also reacted to the event by issuing a special statement. The club's management expressed deep sorrow over the death of Salim al-Ashqar and emphasized that such unfortunate events continuing in the region are causing serious concern.
The statement included calls for justice to prevail and for peace to be established. At the same time, it is stated that the pressure on Palestinian athletes is not limited only to military attacks.
Specifically, in early June, Rend Halawani, a 20-year-old member of the Palestinian women's national team, was also detained by Israeli law enforcement agencies. She was interrogated in the city of Jerusalem, but the details of the charges against her have not been disclosed.
The Palestinian Football Association strongly condemned these incidents, evaluating such actions against athletes as systemic pressure.
