A doctor who killed 15 people in a German hospital was sentenced to life in prison.

In Germany, a doctor working in palliative care was found guilty of intentionally causing the death of fifteen patients and was deprived of liberty. This was reported by Zamin.uz reported.

According to the ruling issued by the Berlin court, the forty-one-year-old specialist was responsible for the deaths of twelve women and three men between September 2021 and July 2024. The details of this criminal case have caused deep concern within the country’s healthcare system and society at large.
According to available information, the deceased patients ranged in age from twenty-five to ninety-four. During the trial, it was emphasized that although these individuals suffered from serious illnesses, their deaths were not expected in the near-term>Prosecutors proved that while performing his professional duties and visiting patients at their homes, the doctor administered lethal mixtures of various medications without their consent. Furthermore, it was established that in some cases, the perpetrator set fires in patients’ homes in an attempt to conceal traces of his crimes.
In particular, in July 2024, shortly before his arrest, the doctor killed two elderly patients in a single day. Initially, he endangered the life of a seventy-five-year-old man residing in central Berlin; several hours later, he intentionally caused the death of a seventy-six-year-old woman living in a neighboring district.
Afterward, he attempted to set fire to the woman’s apartment, but this plan was not carried through to completion. During nearly a year of court proceedings, the doctor remained largely silent, but ultimately admitted to causing the deaths of twelve patients.
The defendant justified his actions by claiming he sought to relieve patients from suffering. According to his statements, he believed at the time that this course of action was the right thing for everyone involved.
Although the doctor asked for forgiveness from the relatives of the victims, law enforcement authorities indicate that these cases may not be exhaustive. Currently, prosecutors are conducting additional investigations into seventy more suspicious cases.
If these cases are also substantiated, the incident could be recorded as one of the largest series of killings in German history. During the trial, relatives of the victims also spoke, emphasizing that their loved ones had a strong desire to continue living.
For example, the mother of the deceased young woman stated that her daughter had never wished to end her life. Another relative’s son mentioned that his mother had planned a trip to the seaside in the near future.
Taking into account the extreme gravity of the doctor’s guilt, the court imposed the most severe penalty available under the law.
