The death of a 22-year-old Indian student in a tragedy that occurred in Bukhara has drawn international attention, Zamin.uz reported.

Following the incident, criminal proceedings were initiated in the Indian state of Kerala under the charge of intentional homicide. The Haripad Police Station in Alappuzha district launched investigative actions based on an official complaint filed by the deceased’s parents.

It was also reported that a repeat forensic medical examination of the body was conducted in India. According to Kerala police officials, although the crime occurred in Uzbekistan, current legislation and international legal standards allow India to independently open an investigation.

If the suspect in the Uzbekistani judicial process receives appropriate punishment, the investigation in India may be halted. Otherwise, proceedings will continue under Indian law.

To this end, mutual cooperation channels are being established between the foreign ministries and embassies of the two countries. The victim’s relatives are demanding that the investigation not be limited solely to Uzbekistan.

They advocate for the extradition of the main suspect to India and for accountability to be pursued through international legal mechanisms. According to preliminary information, the girl’s classmate is suspected in the tragedy.

It is alleged that during a dispute between students, the young man struck the girl in the head with a laptop, which led to her death. However, the family insists that the details of the incident, as presented in official reports, are far more complex and severe.

Upon the body’s arrival in India, it was reported that numerous injury marks were identified. Relatives believe the student may have been subjected to physical violence prior to her death.

Currently, family members are closely monitoring the investigative conclusions in Uzbekistan. Uzbek law enforcement authorities have not yet issued any additional official statements regarding the case.
