On July 9 of this year, American basketball star Kayna Rochford died after being shot during a break in the game. The New York Post reported the incident based on information from local law enforcement.
According to police officials, the 35-year-old athlete sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest the shooting resulted from an argument between Rochford and an unidentified man.
Two other civilians were also injured in the incident and taken to the hospital with varying degrees of injury. Doctors currently assess their condition as stable and are providing appropriate treatment.
Kayna Rochford was once regarded as one of the most talented and promising basketball players at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. He was attacked during a traditional tournament held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Housing Complex on Lennox Avenue, around 10:30 p.m. local time.

His parents had immigrated to the United States from Trinidad and Tobago several years earlier. Residents of New York condemned the violence and expressed sympathy for the victim’s family.
Official statements emphasized that such senseless violence threatens public safety and must be curtailed. Throughout his career, Rochford was known not only in the U.S. but also abroad as an effective shooter.
