This winter, the European Union faces a serious test in the energy market, One.uz reports.

European Commission representative Anna-Kaysa Itkonen addressed journalists in Brussels, revealing the true scale of the economic difficulties expected in the future, which will increase financial pressure on households and industry.

Gas and electricity prices have risen excessively, increasing the burden on consumers. The European Union is implementing strategic measures to counter this dangerous situation.

Dual pressure and the need for alignment European consumers and the manufacturing sector simultaneously face strong financial pressure due to cold weather and high prices for natural gas and electricity. Brussels has assessed the situation as high-risk and called on all member states to achieve maximum coordination and readiness to smoothly pass through the heating season.

The goal is to ensure a continuous and affordable energy supply for all citizens. Strategic reserves and financial decisions Extraordinary financial decisions were taken to smooth market price fluctuations and protect purchasing power.

EU and G7 agreement: The EU leadership fully supports the initiative to release 50 million barrels of crude oil and 50 million barrels of diesel from strategic reserves in cooperation with the G7 countries. The aim is stability: this step is intended to somewhat stabilize fuel prices for European citizens and businesses.

Moreover, European underground gas storage facilities are filled to only 63 percent — the lowest level in the past 13 years. If the winter turns out to be colder than expected, limited gas volumes and rising tariffs could deal a serious blow not only to the communal sector but also to Europe’s global economic competitiveness.

This situation demands united and swift action to ensure energy security. All measures aim to prevent excessive increases in energy prices during the winter and to protect consumers.
