During the negotiations in Riyadh, Moscow and Washington agreed to establish communication channels in all areas, including Ukraine and the Middle East. This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the end of talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reported.
“As for the meetings with the Americans after the negotiations in Riyadh, we agreed to restore communication channels on a wide range of issues and bilateral relations, as well as international matters, including Ukraine; the Americans need to appoint their special representative for this. And, of course, about the Middle East. But the simplest and most complex thing is to ensure the normal functioning of the embassies. In Washington for Russia and in Moscow for the Americans,” the minister said.
Moscow notes with satisfaction that the positions of many countries regarding the situation in Ukraine have become more realistic, said Sergey Lavrov.
“We thoroughly examined a number of international and regional problems, including the processes occurring around the situation in Ukraine. We are not changing our position and are pleased to note that many countries are realizing that without a long-term stable agreement that addresses the root causes of this situation, nothing can be agreed upon,” Lavrov said.
He noted that the consistent position of the USA on Ukraine stands in contrast to the positions of European countries. Understanding the positions of European countries is also difficult, as they are quite unstable and change depending on whose ideas are prevailing.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that after the talks with Sergey Lavrov, the US initiative to resolve the conflict in Ukraine aligns with Turkey's policy and that Ankara is ready to support the process.
