US President Donald Trump is changing the United States' strategy regarding Ukraine in order to normalize relations with Russia and is rejecting the policy of strengthening transatlantic ties pursued by his predecessors. This was reported by Daryo, citing Axios, based on Trump's advisors.

According to advisors, the West has long positioned Russia as an adversary, forcing it to initiate a special operation. Trump, however, is advancing the idea that NATO caused the conflict in Ukraine. Additionally, advisors emphasize that Trump's critics will never acknowledge his perspective that he was in favor of stopping military actions and believed there was not enough strength to resist Russia in Ukraine.

They highlight two events that shaped Trump's views on Ukraine and NATO. In April 2008, the NATO summit in Bucharest promised Ukraine and Georgia future membership in the alliance, which caused discontent in Russia.

In February 2014, a recording of a phone conversation between then-US Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland and US Ambassador to Ukraine Jeffrey Pyatt was leaked. In it, they discussed candidates for key positions in Ukraine and Washington's assistance to political forces opposing Russia. The portal notes that this conversation demonstrated "deep US interference in Ukraine's politics."

The portal states that a turning point in US foreign policy during Trump's presidency was the adoption of a neutral American resolution on the Ukraine conflict by the UN Security Council on February 24. Prior to this, Washington had refrained from supporting draft resolutions against Russia prepared by European countries and Kyiv at the UN General Assembly.

The US is reconsidering its approach to relations with Russia

US National Security Advisor Mike Walls stated on Fox News that the United States is forming a new approach to its relations with Russia.

We are reassessing our relations with Russia. The first step was President Trump's conversations with Putin and Zelensky, followed by negotiations that took place in Riyadh, he said.

Walls added that the United States is also reinterpreting how to cooperate with Ukraine on the economy and critical minerals so that "the American people benefit from the huge investments made in the country."

On February 18 of this year, a meeting of Russian and US delegations took place in Riyadh. Following the meeting, Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov announced that significant steps had been taken towards restoring relations. At the same time, he emphasized that a long way remains to normalize relations between the two countries.
