The President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, recently confirmed information about an assassination attempt against him by Israel in an interview with American journalist Taker Karlson. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to him, a bomb was dropped in the area where the meeting was taking place, but the attack was unsuccessful. Pezeshkian stated, “Yes, they attempted.
They acted, but they did not succeed.” This interview is one of the first conversations the Iranian president has had with Western media following the 12-day war between Israel and Iran.
He emphasized that Israel, not the United States, is responsible for the assassination attempt. Pezeshkian said, “I was there, they specifically tried to bomb that area,” but did not provide specific information about when the attack occurred.
This statement recalls former U.S. President Donald Trump's remarks about Israel's intention to halt plans for an assassination against Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Khamenei had not made a public appearance for several weeks but recently participated in a religious ceremony in Tehran.
The assassination attempts against Pezeshkian indicate that Israel aims not only to weaken Iran's military and nuclear capabilities but also to eliminate its political leadership. During the war, Israel and the U.S. announced that they had destroyed three of Iran's main nuclear facilities, as well as killed over 30 high-ranking security officials and 11 nuclear scientists.
Nevertheless, Pezeshkian and Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi are moving freely in public. The president attended a summit in Azerbaijan, while Araghchi was on official visits to Brazil, Egypt, and Moscow.
Pezeshkian stated in the interview, “We did not start this war and do not wish to continue it. My presidential campaign program was to strengthen national unity and friendship with neighbors.”
When asked about the possibility of returning to nuclear negotiations, he expressed skepticism, saying, “We are not against resuming negotiations. But how can one trust the U.S.?
What will happen if Israel attacks again during the negotiations?” He also denied having any plans to assassinate Trump.
When asked about the return of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors to Iran, he said, “For now, we do not know how much damage our nuclear facilities have sustained. They have been seriously damaged.
If conditions improve, we will consider inspections. However, the IAEA's silence in the face of actions against international law is causing distrust among Iranians,” he said.
This statement is drawing significant attention from the international community. Iran's open accusations could further escalate tensions between Iran and Israel.
Pezeshkian's words not only indicate that Iran is under a security threat but also highlight the fragility of regional political balance. Now, international politicians and analysts are closely monitoring the impact of these events on diplomatic processes.
According to Zamin.uz analysis, this incident reveals the worsening of Iran's internal political stability and the security situation in the region. It remains to be seen what measures Western and regional countries will take to ease this complex situation.
