The US is not rushing to provide security guarantees to Ukraine
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz opposed the disarmament of Ukraine and the establishment of a pro-Russian government in the country. He stated this at the end of a summit held in London on March 2, Sunday.

“This is a country that has been attacked, a victim of great aggression. This is an undeniable truth for everyone. And, of course, this means that we must act accordingly,” said Scholz. According to him, “Ukraine is a European state that has decided to join the European Union. This is a democratic state and it must remain so.”

“Another thing is clear to us, which means that we need to support Ukraine both financially and militarily. The international and transatlantic support for Ukraine remains crucial for the security of the country and Europe,” continued the German Chancellor.

Scholz against the demilitarization of Ukraine

“It is unacceptable to accept Russia's point of view. Russia's goal has always been to create a government in Ukraine that dances to the Russian tune. This is unacceptable,” said Scholz.

“The second issue is demilitarization. Russia constantly demands this, but it cannot be accepted. On the contrary, Ukraine must be strong enough to ensure that it is never attacked again — based on the country, its citizens, and all our experiences. This will also be crucial for the future,” added the Chancellor.

According to him, the starting point for peace negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv could be stopping Russia's shelling of Ukraine. “If the bombardment stops, it would be very beneficial,” said Scholz. “This would be a starting point for negotiations that could continue later.”
