The incident that occurred in India tested not only the values and beliefs of the family but also those of the entire society. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
A 55-year-old man named Shakeel secretly eloped with his son's fiancée, 22-year-old Aisha, and also took the family's valuable gold items. Shakeel is the father of six children and three grandchildren, and he had arranged for his son Aman to meet a girl named Aisha.
However, the family members were against the marriage due to the differences in the bride's social and financial status. During the wedding preparations, Shakeel frequently visited Aisha's home, which made his wife suspicious.
When Aisha told her son about this, Aman found suspicious pictures and calls related to Aisha on his father's phone. In June, Shakeel left home saying he was "going to work" and eloped with Aisha to Delhi.
He also took the family's 200,000 rupees and gold jewelry. A few days later, Shakeel called his wife to inform her that he had married Aisha.
His wife expressed her discontent, saying, "Aisha was supposed to be my son's bride, but now she has become my husband's wife." Although Muslim men in India are allowed to have four wives, polygamy is considered a crime for followers of other religions and can result in imprisonment for up to seven years.
Additionally, Shakeel may also be charged with stealing family wealth, which could lead to a prison sentence of up to three years. The local police stated that no official complaint has been received from the victims so far, but it was emphasized that legal action would be taken if a complaint is filed.
