A new record for quilt making was set in the country. This was reported by Kursiv.media.
Within the framework of a cultural project organized in Almaty, a large quantity of quilts was made at the Medeu ice rink, initiated by the Alaman Quraq team. This work was officially evaluated by representatives of the Global Book of Records (GBR).
The chief inspector of GBR for Asia and Africa, Quandiq Qudaybergenov, emphasized the significance and uniqueness of the project. According to him, there are four main record books in the world, among which the Global Book of Records pays great attention to cultural heritage.
The application from Almaty sparked their interest, as a total of 660 quilters participated from all 20 regions of Kazakhstan. Quandiq Qudaybergenov also noted that the art of quilt making has roots that date back 2500 years.
He highlighted the importance of supporting cultural projects in collaboration with UNESCO programs by GBR. Each quilt was made from materials of the same color, size, and weight, which distinguishes it from other cultural records.
These parameters were verified in collaboration with specialists from the Czech Republic and France, and the final decision was made by the headquarters in Mumbai. Among the 660 participants, the youngest participant was 6 years old, and the oldest participant was 90 years old.
Among them were 5 men, 24 boys, and 17 teenagers. The largest delegations came from Almaty city (93 people) and Turkistan region (99 people).
Nurgul Abaykhan, the founder of the Alaman Quraq project, stated that this traditional event has been held for three years and new records are set each year. According to her, 200 people participated in the first year, which was included in the Kazakhstan record book.
The following year, 450 quilters participated within the framework of the Nomadic Games. This year, 660 people united across the country, with all quilts being made in the same shape beforehand and combined into a large carpet.
The quilters are not only showcasing their craftsmanship but also contributing to the promotion of national values, traditions, and centuries-old cultural heritage. Their activities serve to turn the quilt into a national brand.
This project plays a crucial role in preserving national culture and passing it on to future generations
