US President Donald Trump announced that a 30 percent tariff will be imposed on products imported from Mexico and the European Union starting August 1. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This decision was made due to the unsuccessful conclusion of negotiations with major trading partners of the US. These tariffs could directly affect US trade relations with the European Union and Mexico.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum recommended a calm approach to such threats and emphasized that the country's sovereignty should never be a subject of negotiation. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the tariffs would negatively impact transatlantic economic relations and expressed readiness to take countermeasures if necessary.
Additionally, Trump has sent similar letters to 23 other countries, warning that tariffs could range from 20 percent to 50 percent. Among these countries are Canada, Japan, and Brazil.
This situation is likely to create new tensions in global trade relations. The restrictions imposed by the US government are expected to lead to new discussions in the trade sector.
