Birkin bag sold for a record 10 million dollars
The original bag belonging to actress Jane Birkin, which inspired the creation of the famous Birkin model by the Hermès brand, was sold at a Sotheby's auction for 10.1 million dollars. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

This amount is a record in the history of fashion and the bag has been recognized as the most expensive bag in the world. The Kun.uz website published this news.

The buyer of the bag is a private collector from Japan, whose identity has not been disclosed. The previous most expensive Hermès bag was sold in 2021 for 513 thousand dollars, made of crocodile leather and adorned with diamonds, which was a Kelly bag.

According to Sotheby's, this bag was put up for sale in a 10-minute live auction with nine bidders participating and was sold for a high price. Made of black leather, this bag was specially designed for actress and singer Jane Birkin in 1985.

While sitting next to Hermès CEO Jean-Louis Dumas on a plane, Jane Birkin dropped her bag, spilling its contents on the floor. After this incident, she asked the Hermès chief to create larger and more comfortable bags for women.

This request inspired Jean-Louis Dumas to create a new bag design. This prototype marked the beginning of a new era in Hermès history and later Birkin bags became a symbol of luxury.

In 1994, Jane Birkin put this bag up for auction for the benefit of a charity organization dedicated to the fight against AIDS. Sotheby's representative Morgan Halimi emphasized that this price clearly reflects the legendary history of the bag and the interest in its unique heritage.

According to him, this bag is considered the starting point of a modern legend and it is precisely because of this bag that it has become the most desired accessory in the fashion world. Today, some Birkin models from Hermès are valued at tens of thousands of dollars.

Among the owners of these bags are famous personalities such as Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, and Jennifer Lopez.
