The President of Cameroon, Paul Biya, announced that he plans to participate in the presidential elections of 2025. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He made a statement on his social media page regarding this matter. In his address, the head of state reminded of the important issues facing the country and expressed his readiness to serve again with his vast experience.
Paul Biya has been governing Cameroon since 1982 and is currently 92 years old. This makes him one of the oldest and longest-serving leaders in the world.
The next presidential election in Cameroon will be held on October 12, 2025. The election will be conducted in one round, and the candidate who receives the most votes will be declared the winner.
The presidential term lasts for seven years. In 2008, Paul Biya abolished the term limit in the Constitution, allowing him to participate in elections without restrictions.
He last participated in the elections in 2018, winning with 71.28 percent of the votes. However, opposition and civil society representatives expressed doubts about the election results, highlighting the existence of irregularities.
There is great interest in how influential the elderly Paul Biya will be in the political arena in the upcoming election. Time will tell if changes will occur in Cameroon.
