The "Rosebud" sled from the 1941 film "Citizen Kane," one of the most famous movie props in Hollywood history, was sold at a Heritage Auctions auction for 14.75 million dollars. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This amount is approximately equivalent to 11 million British pounds, as reported by The Guardian. This result made the "Rosebud" sled the second most expensive prop in film history.
The most expensive movie prop is the Ruby slippers from "The Wizard of Oz," which sold for 32.5 million dollars. The previous owner of the sled is the famous director Joe Dante.
He states that he received this sled as a gift from the Paramount studio's trash in 1984. According to Joe Dante, as a film fan, he immediately recognized the value of this prop.
The sled is primarily made of pine wood, and its original paint has been preserved. However, some metal parts may have been removed during the war.
Joe Dante has used this sled in his films such as "Explorers," "Gremlins 2," "The Burbs," and "Eerie, Indiana." Additionally, a similar sled belonging to the famous director Steven Spielberg was sold for 60,500 dollars in 1982, and another copy was sold for 233,000 dollars in 1996.
The auction also featured an X-wing model from "Star Wars," Indiana Jones' whip, photographs of Marilyn Monroe, armor from "Ben-Hur," and a Ralph Lauren costume worn by Audrey Hepburn. As auction organizer Joe Maddalena noted, these items are not ordinary things; they are living witnesses of Hollywood history.
