I can call myself the world champion of "doing nothing." This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This may seem unusual, but it's the truth. Since I was a child, I have always been troubled by the question, "Am I doing enough?"
Growing up in a highly competitive city like Hong Kong, the desire to show good results and always be the best has been constant. However, along with these efforts, I also experienced a lot of mental pressure.
Since 2012, I started learning about mindfulness practice. This method has greatly helped me manage my emotions and shape my thoughts correctly.
I currently work in the field of educational psychology and witness many people's mental health issues. For this reason, I believe it is necessary to implement mindfulness in schools.
This is why I became interested in the "Space-Out" competition. This competition was organized in 2014 in Seoul by Korean artist Woopsyang.
It requires participants to do nothing for 90 minutes. I participated in the competition in Hong Kong in October 2024.
Participants sat on yoga mats, and judges measured heart rates every 15 minutes. Using phones, talking, and sleeping were strictly prohibited.
I participated mindfully, focusing on my breathing, the sensations of the wind on my body, and consciously observing the changes around me. The audience rated the participants based on their facial expressions and motivation, and I won.
The prize awarded to me is based on Rodin's "The Thinker" statue. This prize reminds me every day — at least for a few minutes, I have the right to sit and do nothing.
This is a true gift.
