Citroen is reviving its iconic model as an electric city car

French automaker Citroën has officially announced the revival of its legendary 2CV model, Zamin.uz reports.
The new vehicle is designed for urban mobility and will enter the market as an affordable electric car, with an estimated price of around £15,000. At an investor meeting in Michigan, USA, Stellantis CEO Xavier Chardon unveiled the first renderings of the model and announced the return of the iconic car.
This was reported by international media outlets. Production of the new electric vehicle is set to begin in 2028 at a plant in Italy.
As part of the project, the car will roll off the assembly line alongside the refreshed Fiat Panda model. Externally, the new model will retain the distinctive shape characteristic of its classic ancestor from the 1940s.
At the same time, its design will be enhanced with modern stylistic elements. This model is considered a key part of Citroën’s strategy to regain competitiveness in the affordable car segment in Europe.
According to company leadership, the new generation 2CV will, just like in the post-World War II era, provide freedom of movement to millions of people. After nearly eighty years, the model is expected to make electric transportation accessible and convenient for all.
The new vehicle will replace the current petrol-powered C1 model and will be one of seven new models planned under the brand’s development roadmap through 2030. Company management noted that symbolic models like this help establish a strong emotional connection between the brand and its customers.
The 2CV model, in particular, carries a rich historical legacy. The full technical specifications and exterior design of the vehicle will be showcased to the public at the Paris Motor Show in October this year.
This project serves as one of the key pillars of Stellantis’ global plan to produce affordable electric vehicles worldwide.
