Citroen revives its fictional model as an affordable electric vehicle

French automaker Citroën has officially announced the revival of the 2CV name — one of the most widespread and recognizable models in its history — as reported by Zamin.uz.
At an investor meeting in Michigan, Stellantis CEO Xavier Chardon unveiled the first renderings of the new electric vehicle and announced the return of the legendary model. The new car is designed for urban mobility and is expected to be priced around $19,000.
This will position it as one of the most affordable and accessible vehicles on the modern market. The exterior design of the new model retains the distinctive shapes characteristic of its historical predecessor.
However, the design has been reworked to meet contemporary standards and features a fresh, modern look. The full technical specifications and exterior appearance of the vehicle are scheduled to be presented to the public at the Paris Motor Show in October this year.
This model will be part of a lineup of ten new electric vehicles that Citroën plans to launch by 2030. According to company leadership, the new electric car aims to revolutionize the European automotive market, just as the original 1940s model did in its time.
Its primary goal is to make electric transportation more convenient and affordable for everyday drivers. After a long hiatus, the return of this model is intended to make it a true people's car, easing the burden of daily life for many.
The new vehicle will be produced alongside the Fiat Panda at one of Citroën’s plants in Italy. It is expected to enter the market as the brand’s most affordable electric vehicle, replacing the previous gasoline-powered models.
Company experts emphasize that in the future, vehicles with simple and intuitive control systems — rather than complex and excessive technology — will achieve greater success. This approach will particularly appeal to drivers who value simplicity and economy.
