Mercedes-AMG Returns to V8 Power in New Model

Mercedes-AMG has officially announced its return to eight-cylinder V8 engines with the launch of the new CLE 63 Mythos coupe, according to Zamin.uz.
Until now, AMG variants of this model were exclusively equipped with six-cylinder turbo engines. However, the new Mythos series will feature vehicles powered by a significantly more potent unit sourced from the updated S-Class model.
This development has sparked considerable interest among car enthusiasts. The four-liter twin-turbo engine is typically reserved for high-performance supercars and comes equipped with a special dry-sump lubrication system.
For reference, in the S-Class, this engine delivers 530 horsepower and 750 Newton-meters of torque, enabling a vehicle weighing over two tons to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds. For the CLE 63, positioned as the second model in the exclusive Mythos lineup, engineers plan to further increase the engine's output.
Experts estimate that the new coupe’s power will exceed 600 horsepower, allowing it to reach 100 km/h in less than four seconds.
Additionally, the vehicle’s chassis and underbody components will undergo significant revisions to handle this heightened performance. Prototypes tested on Germany’s renowned Nürburgring track appear noticeably lower and wider than the current CLE 53 model.
The company’s return to its traditional V8 engines follows the unsuccessful attempt to shift toward hybrid technology and smaller-displacement motors. According to company representatives, four-cylinder hybrid systems in other models failed to meet the expectations of loyal customers.
Moreover, adapting these complex engines to meet new environmental standards proved to be excessively costly. As a result, the brand has decided to return to its classic power sources.
