On July 9, during a meeting dedicated to improving road traffic safety, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, shared his personal experience. This was reported by Upl.uz.
He spoke about his journey on the capital's roads, emphasizing that he has also experienced the congestion and inconveniences that thousands of drivers face daily in Tashkent. The head of state noted the significant importance of road infrastructure in assessing the country's economy.
He mentioned that last Saturday or Sunday, he secretly drove a car and spent 15-20 minutes in traffic. During this time, he did not use his position to bypass the congestion but waited in line like an ordinary driver.
Addressing the Minister of Internal Affairs, he emphasized that the identity of the driver was unknown to anyone. He did not request a special road and stood in line with everyone else.
The President harshly criticized the illogical decisions in traffic organization and called on the Minister of Internal Affairs to drive in problematic areas to personally feel the inconveniences people face when returning home in the evening. He provided a specific example: the four lanes of traffic before the bridge suddenly narrow to two lanes, leading to congestion.
He expressed his astonishment that such problematic situations were not taken into account during planning. He also emphasized that there is a possibility to organize traffic effectively and logically.
