Director Sarik Andreasyan admitted that he dislikes Andrei Tarkovsky's films and does not like auteur cinema in general. This was reported in a video posted by the Telegram channel "Ostorojno, Moskva".
"I hate Tarkovsky. Tarkovsky is horror. This art of cinema has been stuck 60 years ago, it should be forgotten. If you want to be a poor, unsuccessful, and unreliable director, please go ahead,” Andreasyan said.
He made these remarks when addressing students of Moscow Film College No. 40. They expressed dissatisfaction with the director's views on auteur cinema and the film "Anora". The author of the film "Onegin" wanted to explain to the students that there is no opportunity to earn significant income from festival films. He also referred to the "Anora" film as a "marginal film".
The students did not accept the director's point of view, resulting in a debate. According to the publication "Ostorojno, novosti", as a result of the dispute, Andreasyan left the lecture early. The students responded to his departure with laughter and applause.
Representatives of Moscow Film College confirmed the incident, stating that it was not a public event, but rather a conversation organized by some individuals' initiative.
