Singer Farhod Sulaymonov: “A person who has eaten salt with us for ten years has taken us to court”

Farhod Sulaymonov, the former singer of the duet Farhod and Shirin, which gained fame not only in Uzbekistan but also in Central Asia, spoke about the misunderstanding that occurred between him and poet Bobur Bobomurod in an interview with the “Intervyu TV” YouTube channel.

“After we started working as a duet, Bobur called me and asked how we would work, Farhod. I said we would work equally, for example, if we earn a thousand dollars, 300 for you, 300 for me, 300 for Shirin, and 100 for the admin. We started working with this agreement. They asked if I agreed, and I said I did. That’s how we started equally, we didn’t sign a contract.
After ten years, we went to Bobur’s house to ask for a prayer. Then they asked, what about my poems?

Bobur, we worked equally, we worked well, your task was to provide us with poems, and our task was to sing. If the poems were not provided during the 10 years, they said no, what should I do from now on, they said.

I created this project so that my children could earn money tomorrow, they said. I planned for my children to have something coming in even after I die, they said.

Then I said, Bobur, isn’t this plan a bit wrong? After all, any project signs a contract for 3 to 5 years, but we worked with you for 10 years, I said.

Then we received a call about intellectual property the next day. The person I shared salt with for ten years took us to court. We lost in both the first instance and the appeal. Then we appealed to the Supreme Court, thank God, in the Supreme Court, there was a great person, approximately 70 years old, whose name I don’t remember, who resolved the case in our favor,” says Farhod Sulaymonov.

In response to the journalist's question, “What is your current relationship with Bobur Bobomurod and Shirin?” he answered:

- “After the court cases were concluded, we met with Bobur in the shooting of several shows. They turned away from me and walked past without looking at me. This situation made me a bit sad. I also didn’t go to their houses to apologize, as this is not a situation that requires an apology. I met Shirin several times in our yard after that. I was very rushed during those times. Lately, I’ve been so busy that I only come home to sleep,” says the singer.
