The award was presented to him by director Michel Gondry, with whom he worked on the film "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". According to Jim Carrey, his ancestors emigrated from France to Canada.
He delivered his acceptance speech with French pronunciation, recalling that his great-great-grandfather Mark-François Carrey emigrated from the French port of Saint-Malo to Canada. Later, their family moved to Los Angeles.
