Control over e-commerce and money transfers in Uzbekistan will be strengthened

In Uzbekistan, efforts are underway to regulate the e-commerce sector and strengthen oversight of transactions conducted through foreign online stores and trading platforms. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The Tax Committee has developed a procedure for transmitting non-personalized data on the movement of goods and financial transfers by e-commerce operators. This innovation is being implemented to ensure transparency in the digital economy and to accurately calculate revenues flowing into the state budget.
According to the Tax Committee, the document was prepared within the framework of implementing the Head of State’s directives. Once the new procedure comes into force, tax authorities will be able to automatically receive data on electronic payments and the movement of goods.
This process will also take into account all payments made in favor of foreign companies. This will help determine the actual volume of the e-commerce market and ensure fair tax calculation.
Importantly, the transmitted data will be in anonymized form. That is, tax authorities will not have access to users’ personal information, but will focus on overall trade volume, the number of transactions conducted, and financial indicators necessary for tax assessment.
These measures will not only help protect consumers’ rights but also improve the accuracy of economic analysis. Furthermore, it is planned to implement a mechanism for holding foreign legal entities accountable for tax obligations when selling goods through trading platforms.
If foreign online stores are actively trading in the Uzbekistani market, they will be required to fulfill their tax obligations in the established procedure, just like local entrepreneurs. If foreign companies fail to comply with these requirements or evade tax payments, measures to restrict their activities in the country’s territory may be considered.
Such changes are also significant for local businesses. Currently, foreign sellers operating in the market without paying taxes create an uneven competitive environment for local business representatives.
The new mechanism will establish uniform and fair rules of the game for all participants. At a time when online trade is rapidly developing, improving regulations in this sector in line with modern demands is an important factor for economic stability.
