In recent years, former famous football player Aleksandr Mostovoy expressed his opinion about the possibility of tightening restrictions on the number of foreign players in the Russian Premier League. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
Recently, information has emerged about plans to further tighten these restrictions. According to Mostovoy, it is difficult to reach a consensus on the issue of foreign players.
He also recalled the era of the former USSR. According to him, there were no foreign players at that time, but football was well developed.
Mostovoy always stated, "In football, it’s not about the passport; it’s the person who plays. Whoever is stronger should be on the field.
The nationality or passport of a footballer is not important. Why is there some hindrance for Russian footballers to be the best?" he expressed his opinion.
He also noted that restrictions on foreign players could help some footballers while negatively affecting others. Currently, clubs in the Russian Premier League can register a maximum of 13 foreign players for one season.
At the same time, no more than 8 foreign players can participate on the field at the same time.
