Famous football agent Paulo Barboza commented on the initiative of the Russian Ministry of Sports to reduce the number of foreign players in the country's championship. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
Earlier, it was announced that the restrictions set for foreign players would be tightened in 2025. According to the new regulations, no more than five foreign players are allowed on the field at the same time, and their total number in the team must not exceed ten.
Paulo Barboza expressed the opinion that this change will allow young Russian players to showcase themselves and have the opportunity to play in the main squad. According to Barboza, this decision will yield positive results for Russian football.
He stated that foreign players should be significantly stronger than local players. In such conditions, the door opens for young players to demonstrate their talents.
Currently, in the Russian Premier League, each club can register up to 13 foreign players, of which eight can be on the field at the same time. According to the new changes, these numbers will be reduced starting from the next season.
This will create additional opportunities for the development of local players.
