Dmitriy Bulykin, a former striker of the Russian national team and Dynamo Moscow club, expressed his opinion on the likelihood of an increase in restrictions on foreign players in the Russian Premier League. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
According to him, not everyone agrees on this issue, but there is no other way in the current situation. Now clubs will have to closely monitor the growth of Russian players and focus on their football academies.
At the same time, the practice of purchasing foreign players for large sums may decrease. Earlier, there were reports in the media that a new restriction is expected to be implemented starting from the 2026/2027 season.
According to this, a maximum of five foreign players will be allowed to participate on the field at the same time. Currently, according to the existing rules, a team can have eight foreign players on the field at the same time.
These changes are expected to contribute to the development of national players and support local youth.
