Famous coach Yuri Syomin expressed his opinion on the restrictions imposed on the number of legionnaires in Russian football. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Sports announced that starting from the next season, the restrictions on legionnaires in the Premier League would be further tightened. Yuri Syomin emphasized that he is not in favor of strengthening these restrictions.
According to him, restrictions in the history of football have not brought any benefits. In Syomin's opinion, there is no point in imposing strict limits on the number of legionnaires, as such measures do not yield practical results.
He noted that competition is crucial for improving players' skills. Syomin emphasized that it is healthy competition, not artificial barriers, that drives the development of players.
Additionally, Syomin stated that simply tightening restrictions is not enough for the development of Russian players; changes are also necessary in sports schools and other areas. Currently, the "13+8" system is in effect in the Russian Premier League.
Each club can register 13 legionnaires during the season. During a match, a maximum of 8 legionnaire players can be on the field at the same time.
