Spartak's popularity is attributed to the Romantsev era, says Ugarov

According to former Zenit midfielder Denis Ugarov, currently Moscow's Spartak is more popular than the Saint Petersburg club. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.

Ugarov stated that the reason for this situation is that many supporters of the "red-whites" remember the team from Oleg Romantsev's era. During that time, Spartak achieved success in European cups.

As Ugarov emphasized, the current Spartak's achievements are not theirs but the result of the team under Romantsev's leadership. During Romantsev's era, the team had more Russian players, and there were almost no foreigners.

During that period, Spartak achieved great success in the Champions League. As for today, according to the expert, Zenit has surpassed the Muscovites in terms of the number of trophies.

However, the situation may change in the coming years. In the 2025/2026 season, neither team has had a good start.
