In August 2023, Abbosbek Fayzullayev, who moved from the "Pakhtakor" club to Moscow's CSKA, quickly became one of the leading players of the team. Our young and talented foreign player was recognized as one of the strongest discoveries of the Russian Premier League.
In the first part of the current season, 21-year-old Fayzullayev played as an important player in CSKA's matches, but after the winter break, the team's head coach Marko Nikolich made serious tactical changes.
These changes had a significant impact on Abbosbek. His responsibilities on the field increased sharply, and his main playing role also changed. Now Abbos is going through the process of adapting to a new role, which has led to a noticeable decline in his performance.
Experts of Russian football have also shared their thoughts on our compatriot's situation.
According to former CSKA defender Vladimir Ponomaryov, Abbosbek has been facing physical issues lately:
“Abbosbek Fayzullayev has encountered difficulties related to physical preparation. He is still very young – only 21 years old. He is tired not only physically but also mentally. He was praised a lot at the beginning, even compared to a player of 'Real' level.
Young players need to be handled very carefully. They should learn to see their mistakes rather than receive excessive praise. Abbosbek is currently being overloaded. He shouldn't have been made the central figure in the team. It is necessary to give him some time to recover. Only then will he be able to return to his level.”
Another former CSKA player, Alexander Grishin, also commented on the changes in Abbosbek's game:
“Abbosbek Fayzullayev's main position is as a wing forward. He feels very comfortable on the wing. However, now CSKA has changed his position and complicated his tasks. That’s why Abbos is not visible on the field. Previously, his game was free.”
Abbosbek Fayzullayev has played a total of 32 matches in the Russian Premier League and the country’s cup this season, scoring 3 goals and providing 7 assists.
