Eight Tunisian footballers test positive for doping

Eight players from the Tunisia national football team have tested positive for a banned substance during the 2026 World Cup, according to reports. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to information from the Daily Mail, the players' samples contained clenbuterol, a substance prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency. The discovery has caused significant controversy in the sports world and drawn the attention of experts.
According to the test results, the same substance was detected in all eight players. Clenbuterol is primarily known for its ability to widen airways, and it is included in the list of banned substances because it can artificially enhance athletes' physical capabilities.
Currently, investigations are underway to determine how the substance entered the players' bodies. Preliminary assumptions suggest that the banned substance may have entered their systems not intentionally, but as a result of consuming low-quality or contaminated meat products.
It is reported that the Tunisia national team members consumed such meat products during their training camp in Mexico. However, this is not yet a final conclusion, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Furthermore, the clubs for which these players play have been officially notified about the situation. The Tunisia national team's performance at this World Cup has been unsuccessful.
The team was forced to withdraw from the competition early, failing to advance past the group stage. After their initial defeat, the country's football federation dismissed head coach Sabri Lamouchi.
His replacement, Hervé Renard, was also unable to improve the situation, and the team failed to score in the remaining two matches under his leadership. At the same time, the positive test results of the eight players have further complicated the situation.
At present, anti-doping authorities need to precisely determine the source of the substance. If the players' guilt is proven, they could face long-term suspensions.
On the other hand, if the hypothesis linking the substance to meat products is confirmed, the penalties could be reduced or even completely overturned. The sports community is awaiting a final decision on this matter.
