Irina Rodnina, a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and Olympic champion, supported the expulsion of the Moscow "Torpedo" football club from the Russian Premier League (RPL). This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
She emphasized that despite the popularity of the "Torpedo" club, breaking the rules cannot be allowed. In an interview with the "VseProSport" portal, Rodnina stated that everyone, regardless of which club they belong to, should be held accountable for their mistakes.
According to the results of the last season, Moscow "Torpedo" will be replaced by the "Orenburg" team. The Ural club finished in 15th place and was relegated from the top league based on sports criteria.
Previously, the "Ural" team from Yekaterinburg was also considered as a replacement for "Torpedo." Thus, the expulsion of "Torpedo" from the RPL has caused certain changes in the football market, and this decision is based on the principles of sports justice.
Although there are various opinions on this matter among clubs and fans, the rules must be applied equally to everyone.
