Elon Musk's xAI company reported annual operating losses

Elon Musk's xAI company, founded at the end of 2023, incurred operational losses exceeding $6 billion during its first year of activity, Zamin.uz reported.
As part of preparations for taking SpaceX public, the company released financial statements showing that its annual revenue is significantly lower than its expenses. By the end of 2025, xAI's total revenue was estimated at approximately $3.2 billion.
These figures have been widely cited in international tech publications. Notably, the majority of this revenue does not come from direct sales of AI products, but rather from projects developed in collaboration with the X social media platform.
While advertising revenue on X reached $1.8 billion, profits from the Grok chatbot are estimated at around $270 million. For comparison, OpenAI, a leading player in the field, reported annual revenue of $24 billion, and Anthropic reached $30 billion.
These numbers confirm that xAI currently lags far behind its market competitors. A significant portion of the company's expenses is allocated to scientific research and the development of new models, particularly the purchase of NVIDIA graphics processors.
In 2025 alone, over $5 billion was spent on these technical objectives. Although Elon Musk announced the creation of two massive supercomputer complexes named Colossus, part of this technical infrastructure is currently leased to Anthropic.
This indicates that the company is not yet fully utilizing its own capabilities. Beyond financial challenges, xAI's team is also facing serious personnel issues.
Over the past few months, several co-founders and a number of key specialists have left the company. According to Musk, the company was originally built on incorrect foundations and is now being rebuilt from scratch.
Going forward, the main focus is planned to shift toward developing tools for creating software using artificial intelligence. The company's future development will largely depend on the success of management reforms and technological innovations.
