OpenAI has appointed a new managing director in India

OpenAI is advancing its expansion strategy in India, which it considers its largest market outside the United States, according to Zamin.uz.
The company has appointed Prabxdjit Singx, former president of Uber India and South Asia, as its first managing director in India. This move holds strategic importance for OpenAI, aiming to strengthen its technological influence in the region.
According to TechCrunch, Singx will begin his role in September of this year and will report to Kiran Mani, OpenAI’s director for the Asia-Pacific region.
His responsibilities include expanding the user base, attracting corporate clients, collaborating with government agencies on regulatory matters, and overseeing operational processes. OpenAI views India as the second most important market in its global growth after the United States.
The company opened its first office in New Delhi last August and plans to establish additional offices in major tech hubs such as Mumbai and Bangalore this year.
Singx’s appointment marks the third major hiring in OpenAI’s regional talent strategy. Previously, the company had appointed Pragya Misra, who gained experience at Meta and Truecaller, as head of strategy and global affairs.
Additionally, Rishi Jaitli, former head of Twitter India, has been brought on as an advisor to help establish government relations in the field of artificial intelligence policy. The convergence of such high-caliber specialists underscores OpenAI’s serious commitment to the region.
India’s market is growing rapidly not only in terms of user numbers but also in technological infrastructure. OpenAI has already established partnerships with some of the country’s largest conglomerates, including Reliance and Tata Group.
The company is actively engaged in initiatives related to higher education, e-commerce, and data center development. The widespread adoption of the ChatGPT app among Indian users has further accelerated this momentum.
Currently, OpenAI continues to hire specialists across various functions in India. Open positions include AI implementation engineers, engineers with developer experience, marketing leads, solutions engineers, and partnership directors.
Other AI giants from the United States are also not overlooking the Indian market. For example, Anthropic, OpenAI’s main competitor, opened its office in Bangalore at the end of 2025, and Irina Gous, former head of Microsoft India, has joined its team.
