Nyusom signs strategic partnership agreement with Anthropic

A strategic partnership agreement has been signed between California Governor Gavin Newsom and Anthropic, one of the leading companies in the field of artificial intelligence. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to this agreement, all state agencies and local government bodies in the state will have the opportunity to use the Claude chatbot at special preferential rates. This step is aimed at increasing technological efficiency in the public sector, in place of enterprises struggling with the cost of technologies.
Techcrunch.com reports on this. Within the framework of the agreement, Anthropic will not only provide access to its advanced Claude model but will also undertake special training and technical support for state employees.
According to an official statement from the Governor's office, this technology will assist civil servants in drafting documents and analyzing large volumes of data. Regarding efficiency and security issues, Governor Gavin Newsom emphasized that artificial intelligence should not completely replace human labor in public administration.
On the contrary, it should help employees work faster, solve problems more effectively, and provide higher quality results for the residents of California. This agreement is a logical continuation of the decree issued in March of this year regarding the acceleration of the safe use of artificial intelligence in public administration.
Interestingly, California's rapprochement with Anthropic is occurring against a backdrop of tensions with the US federal government, specifically the Department of Defense. Previously, a disagreement had arisen regarding the signing of a contract between Anthropic and the Department of Defense.
Anthropic demanded a ban on using its technology for the surveillance of Americans or the management of autonomous weapons without human control. While the conflict with the federal government continued, the US Department of Defense rejected Anthropic's demands and ultimately chose to collaborate with OpenAI.
The federal government had declared Anthropic a supply chain risk and restricted its work with other Pentagon contractors. However, California state officials state that these federal-level restrictions will not hinder cooperation at the state level.
Chris Given, Director of the California Department of Information Technology, told POLITICO that the risk label imposed by the federal government was not discussed at all during negotiations with Anthropic. The state leadership is focusing on modernizing the management system through the correct and safe use of technology.
This partnership could be an interesting experience for countries undergoing digital transformation, such as Uzbekistan. The use of tools like ChatGPT or Claude in public service allows for the reduction of bureaucracy and an increase in the speed of decision-making.
At the same time, the issues of compliance with security requirements and independent control of technologies may be of critical importance in each state's own decision-making process.
